“The time to stop a revolution is at
the beginning, not the end.”
Adlai E. Stevenson
August 15, 2009
It is two months after JC's last match in
the OWF before it
abruptly closed. One might say JC is happy that the OWF is
closed, but they wouldn't know him very well. He wasn't
trying to save it just for show. Whatever he did to others,
he genuinely believed what he was saying. Some might say
he's psychotic. Others might say he's an egomaniac. Whatever
the reason, his mission has cost him a number of friends and
even his own brother seems to have turned against him. His
thoughts at the moment lay at his OWF Tears Championship,
which he kept when the company folded.
Regardless of how it happened, I am the
longest reigning tag champion in OWF history. I did my
research.
He says this to no one in particular, as
he's currently all alone. Lesser men would feel bitter or
lonely at what their life has turned out to be. JC does not.
For now he is enjoying his well-deserved break and time off.
OWF was a failure. He couldn't save it and in the end it
closed down. He knew he was to blame.
Johnson.
All of JC's work ruined because of one
man's ego trip. Before JC can keep dwelling on the past, his
cell phone lets out a hum from the table. Someone is trying
to contact him.
It's two months later. A different person
is trying to reach The Man Without Fear.
That was an impressive showing against
Vincent Cain.
Michelle always knows how to start a
conversation. JC smirks.
He gave me a bigger beating than I
thought he would, but I sent him packing from this place.
Don't send too many people away, I don't
think the roster can take it.
I find it quite the coincidence that
Josh Allen leaves after Phoenix brings me in to take him
out. I guess he heard about me.
I'm curious as to how NLW will regroup,
build it's roster and crown a new champion.
After what I've done in recent weeks, I
think I should just be given the belt. It's not like any of
the other "talent" can hold a candle to me.
Don't get too arrogant.
I'm serious. The roster consists of guys
like Drake Munday, Ray Lopes and Ethan fucking Dashery. Oh
but you have Nick James on the injured list, that should be
a huge improvement.
Can the sarcasm for a minute, Joe. You've
got a challenge from elsewhere.
What the hell are you talking about?
You heard me, Joe. I want to talk about
the way we've been acting towards each other.
Two months ago, Eric tries to convince JC
to reunite the family. It's a tough sell.
Now that it's not your job to stop me
anymore you want to just let things go? You're willing to
just forgive everything I've done to you?
Yes. Because we're brothers. Brothers
fight and there was no permanent damage. We've fought before
Joe, in BTW and ICW.
I get what you're saying, but who's to
say that you won't try to stop me should the OWF ever come
back? Or what about if I go elsewhere?
I think our bond should be more
important than "what ifs".
I think maybe you're still working for
Johnson and this is a trap.
Wow, you're getting a little paranoid
without working for "the biz", aren't you?
You stabbed me in the back. I have a
right to be a little paranoid.
Someone had to knock some sense into you.
I get it. You think I was acting a
little out of line. You clearly don't understand what I was
doing and you never will. But...I guess since we are
brothers, we should have a discussion.
That's more like it. Want to meet at the
usual spot?
I don't see why not.
Well I know you don't care enough about
the OWF to come back, but let me spell it out for you. CJ
knows you have a job with NLW now. He's pulling out the fact
you have the Tears title to force you to come back. He'll
probably sue you otherwise.
That type of slimy politics is exactly
what got the OWF closed to begin with. What, does he want me
to give El Plaga another chance to lose?
No. He wants to fight you in an
electrified steel cage match.
Well why didn't you say so? I'll gladly
come back if it means I can put an end to that farce of a
president.
The only thing I question is to why he'd
want that match.
He probably put himself in the spot
where GI would have been. I did challenge him at the last
Addiction. But we all know how that ended up.
Yes. We do. I know you hate CJ, this
would be the perfect opportunity to take him out for good.
And legally. I want to go scan the OWF
Network to see if he's saying anything...but I'll definitely
meet up with you in a couple of days. Tell them I accept,
even if I didn't have a choice in the matter.
Well you did, but I imagine you don't
want to get sued.
JC hangs up the phone and turns on the TV.
The OWF Network had been nothing but static for weeks, and
replays of old episodes of Addiction before that. JC got a
notice from his cable provider stating it was about to be
taken off the lineup in November. But now, there is
something on and it's new. It's a presidential address.
JC's truck pulls into the driveway of the
old family house and GI is already there.
I can't believe you moved out. At least
no one's bought it yet.
The upkeep was more than I cared to deal
with.
Okay, you've got me out here. Talk.
Well, we've been through a lot together.
You tried to stab me in the leg, you had your lackeys shoot
me with a fireball and you've made the wrestling world's
last impression of me a joke.
And you've attacked me and impeded my
work...even going as far as to team up with Greg Jackson and
Chase Johnson to try and fail to get revenge.
I'm willing to let that slide if you are.
Funny thing about that. I consider what
you did to me the bigger insult. Everything that happened
afterward was just me going on the defensive.
Really? That's the stance you're taking?
That's it's all my fault?
Everything was going just fine in OWF
until you stuck yourself into matters that didn't concern
you.
It's clear there is still some tension
because their voices are starting to increase in volume. GI
begins pacing.
Maybe I did that because I didn't like
the fact my brother has turned into some kind of fucking
psycho!
There you go, not understanding what it
is I'm doing.
Okay, let me try to understand. You
attempted to cripple or kill a man, you attacked a woman,
you've ruined careers all in the name of some ideal
wrestling company that only you want!
GI, I'd choose your next words
carefully. I will not have you belittle my work like this.
You know what, this was a bad idea.
Obviously there are still bad things between us and it's not
going to get resolved by talking. Sorry to waste your time.
GI begins walking to his car. JC, perhaps
feeling remorseful, moves over and puts a hand on his
shoulder. GI spins around and gets in his face.
What do you think you're doing? Just
forget about it!
Listen..
GI refuses to listen. He turns around and
so JC decides to grab him and spin him around. GI's anger
overflows and he resorts to shoving JC off of him. JC shoves
back, and the brothers begin to scuffle. It's not the first
time the brothers have fought on this property, but it may
be the last. GI tries to punch JC, but JC ducks it and lifts
his smaller brother up and shoves him down onto the car. JC
tries a punch of his own but GI moves and JC's fist connects
with the car. It dents the hood and a look of grimace and
pain appears on JC's face.
FUCK!
As JC stops to hold his hand, wondering it
maybe the force broke it, GI grabs him and throws him
headfirst into the hood of the car. JC falls to the ground
and his brother gets in a striking position and begins
punching him. JC throws up his arms to defend himself and
then shoves GI off onto the dirt. JC gets up and with all
the force he can muster drives his leg into his brother's
ribs. He holds an arm to his side and wipes blood away from
his split lip. Unlike when he's in the ring, there's no
finesse or cold, calculating strategy. It's just an
unplanned brawl. GI tries to stand as he coughs and tries to
regain his breath. JC ducks his head and charges, pushing GI
against his truck with force.
JC is laughing at what he is seeing. Chase
Johnson declares war on him, says that he's calm and ready.
He thinks he has a chance. JC decides to pull out his own
camcorder, which hasn't used in some time, to film a
response to deliver to CJ.
It looks as though I was wrong. CJ isn't
responsible for this little "reunion" that half of the
previous roster has signed up for. He's not even in charge.
So whoever signed this match, thank you. Thank you for
giving me the opportunity to end Chase Johnson once and for
all. CJ is walking death row and he's about to get the state
mandated two-thousand volts. Unfortunately for you I'm the
man with the hand on the switch. These metaphors would be
heavy-handed in a normal match, but since it's an
electrified cage match, it feels appropriate. I have no clue
what I'm in store for? You're a small man who sat behind a
desk for years. I am still in active in-ring competition and
am ready for anything. You? You're a former pencil-pusher
that thinks a big in-ring return will amount to something.
I'm here to be the bearer of bad news: it's not. You are
nothing and this return will end with your smoldering
carcass being sent to the hospital with your
career of any kind being over. You'll be lucky to be able to
eat solid foods.
You're not here for revenge? You're not here to hurt me?
Bullshit. I removed several big, money-making names from
your roster. I ended your run as OWF President. I took your
dream, the company that you love away from you. I did that.
Doesn't that upset you? I know it does. You know what else I
did? I put you in the hospital for a long time. You're at a
low place in your life right now because I made it possible.
You're going to throw away your desire for revenge? I doubt
it. Get angry, Johnson. Get angry because if you don't give
in to your emotions, nothing will be able to save you. I've
dreamed of destroying you for a long time. I will not throw
wild boots, or be reckless. I will calmly and efficiently
tear you apart. I will watch with glee as your flesh burns
off the bone and sticks to the steel. For someone that
claims to be smart as you do, you sure have not been able to
prevent the tragedy that has become your life. Your own
hubris will see you end. Your world is crumbling, and at
Shock and Terror I will finish this once and for all.
I have nothing more to say to you, Johnson. After you let
your paper champion Jesse Williams cheat and use people to
keep his stranglehold on a belt he didn't deserve, he got
control of the company for one night and caused it's
downfall. The OWF will be forever looked at as joke because
of the events you placed into effect while you were in
charge and refused to take action. I stood up, I rebelled, I
revolted. The revolution is at it's end, with the final
disgrace of the former malevolent dictator. Like Hitler in
his bunker, you have shot yourself in the head by agreeing
to this match. I will end you. So say goodbye to everything
you've ever worked for, because it's over.
JC turns off the tape and goes to his desk
to grab an envelope. He hopes the package will arrive in
time for the event.
GI sits in a hospital bed, his ribs being
taped up by a nurse. A doctor is nearby showing him an
X-ray, with two fractured ribs. JC walks in, his arm in a
sling and sits down in a chair. He asks the doctors to
leave. They do and GI looks at him with a black eye and a
split cheek that has been stitched up. JC's hand is in a
cast and he has two black eyes and a healing split lip. The
two stare in silence for a few moments before JC begins to
speak.
I think this is the worst fight we've
ever had.
I think we needed this. Now we're
talking.
Yeah but...do you really think it's
going to be any different? I'm not going to change. I feel
the way I feel about this industry. I will do what it takes
to restore it to it's glory.
Maybe, but I'm through trying to stop
you. I just don't care anymore. You're not worth it.
JC feels his stomach drop and the words
from his brother hurt more than the hairline fracture in his
hand.
So we're probably not going to be around
each other for a while.
I don't know if we'll be anything but
Christmas card relatives again.
You can't mean that.
Joe, you're not going to change, and I'm
not going to stop disapproving. I don't know why this
business has made you so bitter..maybe it was the two-year
long absence from the neck injury. I don't know. But I don't
agree with it and as long as you're an active competitor,
I'm going to know that you're doing these things and it will
pain me to see my brother acting this way. For my own sanity
I just can't deal with it.
Then I guess I'll see you after I
retire. You're my brother Eric. I do love you. You're the
closest thing to a friend I have anymore.
You should think about that the next
time you kick someone's face in because they don't share
your viewpoint.
JC stands up, and without another word
leaves the room. This family is broken. JC has nothing left
to lose. He takes one last glance at his brother who has
already turned away. He looks down at his broken hand and
walks on to whatever the future may hold...
